What does private surgery generally cost?
It is difficult to quote exactly what your out of pocket costs will be. These figures apply to surgery in Cairns Private Hospital or Cairns Day Surgery: Generally speaking (in 2019), if you do have private health insurance, your out of pocket costs may be: 1. Joint replacement (check you are covered): $5,000 2. Knee arthroscopy: $2000 3. Carpal Tunnel Release: $1000
Or if you don't have private health insurance: 1. Joint replacement: $30,000 2. Knee arthroscopy: $5,000 3. Carpal Tunnel Release: $3000
These are deliberately general figures, and a quote specific to your needs can be given on your appointment with your surgeon. Costs are increased at CPI rates, in November each year. The rebate will not increase until after 2020. Most insurers require 12 months of coverage before they will cover you for your surgical costs. You are covered for all pre-existing injuries after 12 months.
We hope this has been of assistance to you, and are happy to explain your personal needs at an appointment with your surgeon.
